1st Quarter = ACCOMPLISHED!

Yehey! One quarter down and three more to go. Well we're happy we're finished with the ball sorter and can now move on to another innovative artefact. Testing = CHECK and Blog = CHECK. Now we are surely excited for the next design we're going to create.....

This has been JilaNd Inc. signing out...

Final Look

Evaluation

Our artefact does meet the design brief and the evaluation criteria. Only that in the testing of our design we got a score of 4/10. And while the testing is going on we’ve observed the flaws and correct aspects on our artefact. One thing we have observed is that it depends on one thing for it to sort accurately. And that is the rate of pouring the balls into the sorter. If it is poured all at once, one marble is mixed with the pingpong balls. Though there are circumstances that even though put fast it sorts efficiently. We found out that the solution to our problem is by pouring the balls slowly or one by one. Because if the rate of a marble/ marbles is fast, it will not go under the track we made where they should go to separate from the pingpong balls. Also while testing, our friends, Rolly and Matthew told us that maybe if we made the holes or spaces of our track smaller/thinner, it would’ve sorted better.
For us the best feature of the sorter is the sorting mechanism /the tracks. It is the cream of the crop. It’s the sorter in the first place, it wouldn’t be a ball sorter without it. And also because it’s done neatly and unexpectedly sorts the balls smoothly.
The least satisfactory feature will be the entrance of the balls located on the roof. It is too small and pouring will be quite difficult. We actually planned to have a some type of vent instead of just a hole but our time was cut short. So that is the feature that could’ve been much improved. Also the tubes after the track, it was just done quickly so we think it could’ve been done more nicely.
But overall, the sorter is quite satisfying. Not purely satisfying because it kind of disappoints us that it still depends on a thing for it to sort accurately. But besides that we are proud of our design. It is neat, clean and even has wheels which makes it easy to transfer and is also lightweight so it’s really portable. So JilaNd Incorporated is happy with the finished product.

Progress Chart

Production Plan

Step
Procedure/Materials
Tools/Equipment
Risk
Time
The base
of the
Artefact
Piece of plywood to be cut into a certain size and wheels will be added at the bottom
Screwdriver,Saw,Screws
Wheels might keep falling from the wood
2 hrs
The bins
Illustration board to be cut into sides with a certain size and be made into a bin by assembling the sides. Tape will be used to assemble them.
Cutter,scissors,ruler
Sides may not be equal so bins may not fit perfectly on the sorter
1 hr
The walls (side,front,
back)/
exterior
Illustration boards will be cut into specific sizes and these ‘walls’ will be assembled by sticking them to the base of course upwards like walls and painted with a design using poster paint and spray paint

Glue gun,cutter, paint brush,ruler
Walls may not be cut perfectly to their size so the design will look messy
2 days
The sorting mechanism/
interior
Illustration boards and chipboards will be cut into tracks and tubes. Also into stands/posts to hold stable the tracks since it’s elevated and one for the side wall(right) since it’s thin. Tape is used for assembly and for the stands.

Glue gun, cutter, ruler, scissors
Elevation might not be right and balls may not pass through smoothly as we have planned
3 days
Roof of
our design
Illustration board will be cut into a certain size and be put on top of the walls. Also a hole will be cut on one corner to have an entrance for the balls if going to sort
Cutter, ruler, Glue gun
Walls may not be stable enough to hold up the roof and the roof may not be cut to its certain size accordingly
30 mins

Design Ideas and Preferred Option

         BRAIN STORMING DESIGN IDEAS

Preferred Option:

The bus design because our design for the interior suits it better than the robot design. It is simpler and portability is better.

And here is the complete sketch of our design (with the interior). As you can see the bins, which are like the luggage area, go perfectly to where our interior design sorts the balls therefore achieving our goal to design an efficient ball sorter.

Evaluation Criteria

Right, before the Investigation part here's the evaluation criteria and we also added something to the considerations

Day 8: Renewed Ideation Technique and Start of Making New Design

Since we changed our exterior design, the ideation technique will be revised too. This is it:

Investigation

Here are some examples of ball sorters we found on the web:
I like this design because it's not too complicated and  looks accurate

Now the design of this one looks nice. Small but what I like about it is that it's  neat and looks like it does its main purpose very well

This one's not actually a ball sorter, it is a paper sorter. But this design helped us to think of ours. It looks clean as well as simple.

Day 7: Sort of Change of Plans

Since we found a flaw in our old exterior design, we decided to change it to something we know the design of our sorter will fit better and so that our materials will still come to use.
So this is the new Exterior design. The inside will be the same as before.

Day 6: Continuation of Making the Artefact and Ideation Technique
